NACHRICHTEN VON MAMA

Some people live in worlds of thoughts and
experiences, that are difficult for others to
understand. They have a reality, which
most people also experience as such.
But they also have a second reality.
In this second reality, existing orders are
suspended and nothing is impossible.
The way they think, act and feel deviates
greatly from the rest of society and these
people are often perceived as crazy -
including my mother.
She has been living with a schizophrenic
psychosis since I was born.
An inner world overrides and an utopian
space emerges in which a diverse, a
multifaceted, pictorial imagination can
unfold.
In my mother's case, this is expressed
above all through her communication. She
creates her own poetry in her messages,
which gives a lyrical insight into a world of
thoughts that is foreign and yet familiar to
me. A language of experience.
My relationship with my mother is
characterized by love and care. However, it
is also characterized by fears, worries and
transgressions.
This is in the regularity with which my
mother checks in with me. Almost every
thought that pops into her head is
communicated to me either by phone or via
WhatsApp message.
My work is intended to highlight my
mother's creative potential and to work
through my personal relationship with her.
I try to bring order into her mental
constructs by collecting the messages and
relating them to each other. I want to show
the connections between her thoughts and
create references that can seem very
familiar at many moments.
But there are deviations, and the viewer will
perceive these too.
The work gives access to a diagnosis which
is often a great obstacle for those affected
and their relatives.
And yet it is also intended to illustrate the
imaginative possibilities and the creative
potential that is revealed in my mother's
almost innocent, loving, childlike way.
For an altered perception is a phenomenon
of and artists often seek a different way of
looking at things. My mother already brings
this different, alien view with her and can
express it through communication.

The podcast was released at Cosmo/ WDR and you can listen to it anywhere, where you can listen to podcasts .
